An ancient Argonian settlement called Haj Uxith occupies a dark corner of Coldharbour. The Argonians want to help me in my quest, but they seem to be divided over something related to their Hist tree.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Treeminder Xohaneel.
  2. Complete the Trials of Body and Spirit.
    • Destroy the Sap Collection Facility.
    • Find the people who embody the Argonian's spiritual values.
  3. Settle the debate between the scholars and the warriors.
  4. Defeat the Champion, or bypass it using Persuade/Intimidate.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

While walking the southwest of Coldharbour, you may come across Treeminder Xohaneel, asking you to help her people of Haj Uxith settle a great debate between their scholars and warriors. However, she won't go into detail before you have proven your worth to each faction by completing the trials of the spirit and body.

Trial of Spirit[edit]

Speak to Treeminder Xohaneel to start the Trial of Spirit. When doing the Trial of Spirit, you must talk to three individuals and give them each an amulet that represents the quality they show in what they do. there are three amulets: Courage, Endurance, and Preservation.

The three gems with their statues
  • Give the Amulet of Courage to Teelawei for negotiation between the two factions and the people of Coldharbour.
  • Give the Amulet of Endurance to Desh-Wazei for gathering food to help her people.
  • Give the Amulet of Preservation to Ashgar for maintaining the traditions and customs of their people.

After you have given away the amulets and receive a gem for each trait, run up to the top of the xanmeer to find three statues: Life, Time, and the Unknown.

  • Place the Gem of Courage on the Statue of the Unknown.
  • Place the Gem of Endurance on the Statue of Life.
  • Place the Gem of Preservation on the Statue of Time.

Once you have placed all of the Gems, you need to run back down to the first level of the xanmeer to talk with Xohaneel. Tell her you have successfully completed the Trial of Spirit

Trial of Body[edit]

Sabotage the Sap Collection Facility

Speak to An-Jeen-Sakka to start the Trial of Body. To complete the Trial of Body you must enter a trapdoor at the top of the northern xanmeer before passing through several rooms containing Argonian peasants before entering the Daedric Sap Collection Facility. You then need to collect some treated wood and then add some to each of the six marked fires under the vats, which will melt the metal vats that are used to boil the Hist Tree wood.

There is an alternative exit on the west side of the room, which exits outside opposite the wayshrine. Return to An-Jeen-Sakka to complete this trial.

Settling the Dispute[edit]

Side with the Scholars and help the Hist die

Once both trials have been complete you need to speak again to Treeminder Xohaneel, who will inform you of the details of the two factions dividing their community. The warriors lead by An-Jeen-Sakka wish to keep the Hist alive although in eternal torment by Molag Bal. The scholars led by the treeminder believe the Hist should be allowed to die ending its torment. If you side with the scholars, you will have to convince An-Jeen-Sakka to accept your decision either by defeating their champion or by intimidating him. Alternatively, if you side with the warriors, to will have to convince Treeminder Xohaneel to accept your decision either by defeating their champion or by persuading her. If you side with the scholars, you must then destroy the vampiric shard by the Hist Tree. Finally speak again to Treeminder Xohaneel/An-Jeen-Sakka to complete the quest.

Notes[edit]

  • After completing this quest, the Argonians' House in The Hollow City will unlock, and members of whichever faction you supported will be found in and around the building.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Coldharbour – Haj Uxith

The souls of Argonians are different from those of other races of Tamriel due to their deep, mystical connection to the Hist trees. Sorcerers who specialize in soul trapping have long sought some way to take advantage of this difference.

Haj Uxith is an Argonian village in southwestern Coldharbour, southwest of the Library of Dusk. It consists of several xanmeers situated around a Hist tree.

Detail

Quick Summary: not written
Walkthrough: not written
Quest Stages: written by Jeancey, not checked

Widulf, a priest of Kyne, proctors the Trial of Spirit. It apparently involves drinking a somewhat poisonous mead and then running around the island. Widulf assures me the poison will connect me with my inner spirit.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Drink Widulf's mead.
  2. Follow the spirit fires around the island.
  3. Talk to Widulf.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

To start the quest, speak to Widulf in his tent. He greets you warmly.

"Ho there, friend. Welcome to my little shrine to Kyne.
I can sense a force, a spirit, radiating from you. You're here to take the Trial, right?"
Yes. What's involved?
"So glad you asked! In a word: poison. Well, poisoned mead. Well, over-fermented mead.
Here, just take this brew. It's the key to the door you're about to open."
Poisonous mead is a key. To a door?
"Yes! To your inner spirit. The brew enables your unleashed spirit to see fires, gifts from Kyne herself!
Follow the path of fire. But mind the scum weed; it'll slow you down."
If you say so, Widulf.
"Drink up, now. Outside the tent, if you don't mind. Don't want a mess if … Well, just drink it outside.
And remember: run really fast!"

You can ask him more questions.

Fast? Why did you mention I have to run the path quickly?
"Oh, no reason. Look, you seem very healthy. If you take too long I'm sure the mead will just wear off. And you'll have to come back and start again.
Pretty sure. Almost definitely sure. Yeah."
This all seems a bit strange. Ask you a few questions about this Trial?
"Oh, of course! If someone asked me to drink some kind of poisoned mead, I'd have questions too!"
Why is a priest of Kyne proctoring this Trial?
"Why wouldn't I? I love going out to these fests, and Vofknir always puts out a good spread. Nothing in Kyne's teaching prohibits strong drink!"
What are these spirit fires you mentioned?
"Well, I'll tell you. I've heard some of the scholars say they're naturally occurring. Some kind of vapor rises up from the ground and the lake. Something like that?
Me, I think they're gifts from Kyne herself!"
Why do I have to drink the mead?
"I'd have thought that was obvious. Without the heart-racing, vision-blurring effect of the mead, you wouldn't be able to see the fires.
You can't run the trial if you can't see the fires!"

You are prompted to drink the mead once you're outside the tent, but you can select it from your quest items and drink it in the tent. There are a series of blue, stationary fires that appear. You must walk into them, in order, before the mead wears off. They will lead you into the lake, where green patches will Tangle you, severely slowing your speed. You have two minutes and five seconds to complete the course. Widulf will be waiting for you at the final one.

"Elder Scrolls" Tormented Spire Walkthrough

Matt Bird writes all sorts of nonsense, but he dedicates a large chunk of his time to writing game walkthroughs.

The Tormented Spire has tested your wits and combat prowess, and the most dangerous trials yet await. But you must press on, as Sadal yet waits within the volcano - and it's only a matter of time before some dumb fool decides to unleash it upon the world. Sally forth, and destroy the beast for good!

Opening the Portal

Location: Tormented Spire

NPC: Tanval Indoril

Level: 15

Reward: 168 gold

  • To trigger this quest you must first complete Climbing the Spire. Piece 'o cake.
  • Tanval believes that the only way to reach the Brother of Strife is to placate the spirits of this place. Cross to the platform where you fought Flamebinder and you'll find one such spirit, Genvis Faledran, and he'll ask you to find three Focus Stones.
  • The first Focus Stone is to the south of the platform. Check the edges of the platform and the path leading to it for a series of rocks poking out of the lava. You can hop from rock to rock to reach a small back pathway leading to a plume of smoke. The Focus Stone of Flame is here. You can land in the lava and survive, but do your best not to linger in the stuff.
  • Return to Genvis. He'll direct you to Leviissi Gilvayn, another spirit. She's waiting up the stairs that lead down to the caldera. She'll teleport you to a cave high above the caldera, inside which you'll find a series of spirits casting spells at one another in a chain. Follow the chain of spells exactly, moving from spirit to spirit, until you find the Focus Stone of Wrath in the rear of the cave. Return to Leviissi after retrieving the stone to complete the trial.
  • Speaking to her will send you to Mavos Siloreth, the final member of the trials. He'll tell you to turn around and enter yet another cave. You'll see red columns of light inside, heralded by glowing circles on the ground. Avoid the circles and the columns as you weave through the cave. The Focus Stone of Binding is at the end.
  • Mavos will zap you back down to the caldera after collecting the three stones. Place them on the three Daedric Panels on the platform where you summoned Flamebinder. That done, wait for the spirits to conjure up a portal for you to use, then speak to Tanval to complete the quest.

Sadal's Final Defeat

Location: Tormented Spire

NPC: Tanval Indoril

Level: 15

Reward: Sedura Morag, 168 gold, 1 Skill Point

This is it. The spirits have opened the portal; all you have to do is step through. Inside...

Sadal

Though similar to his brother in tactics, Sadal fights a little differently. He's stronger, for starters, and the battle against the fiend takes place in two sections. You'll have a numbr of helpers for both sections; pull back towards Walks-in-Ash if you get weak and she will sometimes heal you.

The first, shorter section of the battle consists of Sadal holding back near the lava while his minions go after you. Stay away from Sadal to avoid his AOE attacks and engage the skeletons that rear up to attack your party. Nothing difficult here, though fighting the skeletons and Sadal at the same time is not recommended. Eventually a pre-scripted event will trigger, Sadal will restore his HP to full, and the real battle will begin.

The second phase should be familiar. Sadal stomps around the small arena and tries to use physical and AOE attacks on you. His most common attacks include a downward strike, signalled by a small ring of flame appearing at his feet, and a spreading AOE attack that launches flame in a wide circle around Sadal. The latter is the most dangerous, as it will also knock you down for a few seconds. Get in close and smack Sadal, constantly strafing around him to avoid his pointed attacks, then roll out of the way whenever you appear to be caught in his AOE range. Pull back and let Holgunn aggro Sadal if you need a break. Repeat until the beast goes down. Try not to lead Sadal into the lava, as I imagine (but I'm not positive) that it heals him.

After defeating Sadal, approach his spirit and investigate to trigger a little cut scene. This will effectively bring the quest to a close. Speak to Walks-in-Ash, Tanval, and Holgunn in that order once you've left Tormented Spire to finish up and earn your reward.
